My Story 

If you’re looking for my credentials and advanced trainings, scroll to the end. While advanced trainings are kind of my jam, and I’m of the mindset a therapist’s education is never complete, the ‘about me’ is so you can get to know me as a person to assure a fit as your therapist.

I’ve always been a helper by nature. As a child, this meant befriending kids who struggled, and talking bullies down to empathy. I enjoyed having deep connections with those around me, but didn’t realize the ability to form deep connections and hold a listening ear would serve me in my career.

My mental health journey began at 10 years old with my first stint in therapy, this is when I began to learn my own needs in terms of self care. It turns out deeply empathic kiddos flourish when touched by a deeply empathic adult. My bond with my childhood therapist forever changed me. I looked forward to therapy each week and enjoyed learning the intricacies of my own mind. As a child, therapy helped to support my growth. It gave me an adult outside of my family to truly hear and support me. It also helped to build my resilience, so when I ran in to difficulties in my future, I was able to work through them.

My career took a winding path that landed me in Los Angeles, first in the field of journalism and later in music marketing for a major record label. While I enjoyed my time in “the industry,” something was missing. It took a move to Austin, TX and many self-help books to discover just what it was.

You see, in the midst of my flourishing “industry” career, I endured some very upsetting life events. A therapist helped me to label those life events as trauma. I realized many of the struggles I was walking with daily were due to this trauma. It was also through my own therapy that I learned to overcome these events to become a full and flourishing person once again. I learned what my normal felt like—it felt like finally taking a breath without my chest feeling tight.

Upon my move to Austin, I realized I wanted to help others breathe easy again too. Chances are, you may not know what it is to breathe easy. I want to walk you through finding that first easy breath because man, it feels good when you breathe it in.

I began my work as a therapist for Girl Scouts Beyond Bars, a program supporting girls and their incarcerated mothers. This program helps to support the continued connection for mothers and daughters and stop the cycle of incarceration. It was here that I honed my identity as a therapist and gained love and knowledge working with mothers, children, and breaking the cycles of family trauma.

Though my heart has lead me to this career, my mind allows for plenty of self care. When I'm not in helper mode I enjoy being with my family and friends, and doing toddler-approved activities like the zoo. I also enjoy exploring Austin's music scene, determining the best tacos in town (I can’t reveal my number one choice, for fear it will get too popular), and listening to true crime podcasts before dark.

I aim to help you explore and redefine your story.

As a therapist and self-proclaimed brain nerd, I take an Interpersonal Neurobiology approach to therapy. An understanding of the brain and how trauma affects it is at the forefront of my work. Knowing the brain, means knowing the relationship in the therapy room is also of great importance. It’s okay--and necessary--to laugh, even when doing the deep work. I appreciate each person who walks in to my office for who they are and I am ready to meet you where you’re at. I stay flexible and creative in the therapy room with kids and adults because therapy is not a wellness factory, it’s a personal experience tailored to you.

Whether you have experienced trauma, or are dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, stress, are going through a life transition, wanting to work on your relationship, or anything else that may arise, I’m glad you found me and I commend you for taking this step for your mental health.

I have a passion for helping children, adolescents, and adults resolve trauma. Have you or your child experienced an upsetting event or stage of life you've struggled to recover from? Does the event effect day-to-day functioning? Are you stuck in a cycle of family trauma passed down through generations and ready to break that cycle? Know, there is relief. I aim to help you recover from unresolved trauma by acting as a guide and container through the process. Working through unresolved trauma may be scary. Perhaps you have tried to work through it on your own, but still see it coming up in your day-to-day life. I want you to know, I have been on the other side of the couch and I commend you for getting this far in seeking help. It is not easy. 

I have advanced training in trauma work (advanced trainings listed below) but the base of my work includes holding space for clients to explore, acting as a container to hold your story--no matter the depth, helping you to understand the effect trauma has had on your brain and body, and helping you to hold compassion for yourself to recognize how you have survived, and the ways in which you have thrived thus far.

I also specialize in working with children, adolescents, and their families. Is your child struggling with their emotions? Does your child display a sadness that feels like it could be depression or fear that feels like it could be anxiety? Are you worried your own cycle of family trauma has had an effect on your child? I work with children ages 4 and up on issues including behavior, ADHD, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, self harm, trauma resolution, and more. Seeking help for your child can be a difficult decision. As loving parents, we want to believe we have the means to "fix" everything. Sometimes, getting extra help is the most loving thing you can do for your child. I want to work together with you to best help your child.

I help children and teens explore their emotions through play therapy (for my youngest clients), talk therapy,  sandtray, and other creative means to keep kids engaged. I bring flexibility, playfulness, and creativity to the therapy room--allowing kids to feel comfortable opening up. Therapy with a child is a collaborative process with the family, so I hope you will join in your child’s treatment.

I enjoy helping new mothers adjust to motherhood and seasoned mothers deal with the challenges modern motherhood brings. Do the stresses of motherhood seem to outweigh the happiness of motherhood? Are you worried you may be experiencing a perinatal mood disorder? Modern motherhood is a balancing act. Many women make motherhood look easy--even picture perfect--but are struggling on the inside. I want to help you find the joy in motherhood. 

As a mom myself, who struggled with postpartum depression, I understand the disappointment that comes with wanting to enjoy your baby when the days feel like a challenging haze. No matter your story of motherhood, I provide a non-judgmental space. I want to help you explore your existing story of motherhood and look towards the story of motherhood you hope to live. I completed advanced training in maternal mental health (listed below) in order to best serve my prenatal and postpartum clients. 

Babies in arms are welcome in session and for new moms who can not make it to the office, I offer telehealth and in-home services.
