About Us

Who We Are

Founded in 2017 by Ilyse Kennedy, LPC, LMFT, SEP, PMH-C, Moving Parts Psychotherapy grew into a group practice in 2020 to meet the growing need for therapists skilled in trauma-informed care. Our practice was created to fill gaps in traditional mental health care – providing a space where your experiences, identities, and needs are fully seen and honored.

Each therapist on our team brings unique perspectives and lived experiences, but we share a common commitment: helping people navigate trauma with compassion, skill, and care. We believe everyone seeking therapy deserves safety, validation, and the freedom to explore every part of themselves in a supportive environment.

Our clinicians are trained in a full range of approaches to support healing of the mind, body, and nervous system. This includes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, Narrative Therapy, CBT, and expressive modalities like Art Therapy, Sandtray, and Play Therapy. Whether you’re seeking trauma recovery, support for relationships, or guidance through life transitions, we provide a comprehensive, collaborative approach to help you move forward with insight, resilience, and connection.

What’s Important To Us

  • Continuing Education

Mental health research and trauma treatment are always evolving. Our therapists continually expand their skills and knowledge through training, workshops, and professional development to bring the most effective care to each person we work with.

  • Trauma-Informed Care

We understand that trauma shapes both your experiences and how your body responds to them. Healing happens when we attend to the mind, body, and all the parts of you that carry these experiences, creating safety, understanding, and space for growth.

  • Social Justice

True trauma-informed care acknowledges the ways identity, culture, and society shape our access to safety and well-being. We center awareness of systemic and social factors, understanding that healing cannot happen in isolation from the world around us.

Why the name Moving Parts Psychotherapy?

The name Moving Parts reflects the essence of the human experience: we are complex, layered, and always in motion. Every thought, feeling, memory, and relationship is a part of us – shaping our sense of self, our connection to others, and how we move through the world.

The moving parts are our nervous system responses, our coping mechanisms, the ways we’ve adapted to protect ourselves – and the parts of us that long for safety, connection, and understanding. Healing isn’t about fixing one part; it’s about noticing, understanding, and tending to all the parts of ourselves. Through this process, we open space for healing, resilience, and new ways of relating to ourselves and to the world.

“Therapy has helped me realize how my past traumas were holding me back from understanding myself and connecting with others. Being able to finally peel back the layers and find safety again has had a ripple effect on my life in ways I never expected.”
