About Moving Parts Psychotherapy

We’re an Austin, TX therapy practice that provides in-person and virtual therapy for individuals, couples, families, and young adults as they navigate trauma, relationships, and the many moving parts of being human.

Who We Are

Moving Parts Psychotherapy was founded in 2017 and grew into a group practice in 2020 to meet the growing need for therapists skilled in trauma-informed care. As an Austin, TX therapy practice, we fill gaps in traditional mental health care, providing a space where your experiences, identities, and needs are fully seen and valued.

Each therapist on our team brings unique perspectives and lived experiences, but we share a common commitment: helping people navigate trauma with compassion, expertise, and a healthy dose of humor. We believe everyone seeking therapy deserves safety, validation, and the freedom to explore every part of themselves in a supportive environment.

Our clinicians are trained in a full range of approaches to trauma therapy that support healing of the mind, body, and nervous system. This includes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, Narrative Therapy, CBT, and expressive modalities like Art Therapy, Sandtray, and Play Therapy.

Whether you’re seeking trauma recovery, support for relationships, or guidance through life transitions, we’re ready and honored to join you on your healing journey.

What’s Important To Us

While credentials and areas of expertise are important, we know that choosing a therapist is also deeply personal. At Moving Parts, therapy is shaped by our belief that healing begins from a place of safety, curiosity, and real, human connection. Below are practice-wide core values and approaches that guide our work and shape the care we offer.

  • Therapeutic Relationship

We believe the relationship between therapist and client is the most important part of the healing process. Feeling safe, seen, and genuinely supported creates the foundation for meaningful connection, growth, and healing.

  • Trauma-Informed Care

We understand that trauma shapes both your experiences and how your body responds to them. Healing happens when we attend to the mind, body, and all the parts of you that carry these experiences, creating safety, understanding, and space for growth.

  • Humor & Humanity

We believe that therapy doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time. Moments of humor and lightness can coexist with deep healing, and often help make difficult conversations more approachable and accessible.

  • Continuing Education

Mental health research and trauma treatment are always evolving. Our therapists continually expand their skills and knowledge through training, workshops, and professional development to bring the most effective care to each person we work with.

  • Social Justice

True trauma-informed care acknowledges the ways identity, culture, and society shape our access to safety and well-being. We center awareness of systemic and social factors, understanding that healing cannot happen in isolation from the world around us.

  • Relational Care

Our clinicians bring both professional training and lived experience into the therapy room. Many of us hold marginalized identities and have done our own healing work, which allows us to show up with authenticity, empathy, and a deeper understanding of how identity, trauma, and life experiences intersect.

What does the name Moving Parts mean?

If you’re a fan of drag, you may be familiar with drag queen Trixie Mattel’s 2019 documentary, Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts.

The name Moving Parts also reflects the essence of the human experience. That we are complex, layered, and always in motion. Every thought, feeling, memory, and relationship is a part of us; shaping our sense of self, our connection to others, and how we move through the world.

The “moving parts” are our nervous system responses, our coping mechanisms, the ways we’ve adapted to protect ourselves; and the parts of us that long for safety, connection, and understanding. Healing isn’t about fixing one part. It’s about noticing, understanding, and tending to all the parts of ourselves. Through this process, we create space for healing, resilience, and new ways of connecting to ourselves and to the world.

“I’m so deeply grateful for the time we spent together and for all the work we did. This season of therapy truly helped shape me into such a different, more grounded person, and I carry so much of what I learned from you with me. Thank you for all the care, support, and energy you poured into me, it means more than I can ever fully express.”
