Trauma Therapist Noelle Prax Headshot

noelle Prax, Lpc associate

(She/Her)

Associate Clinician

Supervised by Lacie Hamilton, LPC-S

I am not a band-aid therapist that will only validate how strong you are for 50 minutes straight. Because you are brave and resilient, I know that you can handle turning towards issues that have felt too daunting to face in the past.

I am currently accepting new telehealth clients. All of my sliding scale slots and in-person session slots are currently full. I have a waitlist for clients seeking sliding scale and/or in-person sessions. Please reach out to be added to either waitlist.

Who am I?

My name is Noelle Prax (she/her) and I am a healer and fierce advocate for my clients. As a trauma-informed therapist first, I honor that everyone's stories are likely going to involve some type of trauma. You did not have to go to war for trauma to have touched your story. Trauma includes not having your needs met growing up - or breakup you cannot seem to shake. A phrase that resonates with me is “People make sense." Many people come to me with behaviors they hope to change such as people pleasing, difficulties enforcing boundaries, and having a hard time trusting others. These behaviors are not your fault or personal failures, they are your body’s firewall. Together we will get curious about how the "problems" you bring me may have kept you safe previously and how they are no longer serving you. This process allows you to begin to trust yourself again, and understand that your body has been working to protect you all along.

In general, I am not a band-aid therapist that will only validate how strong you are for 50 minutes straight. Because you are brave and resilient, I know that you can handle turning towards issues that have felt too daunting to face in the past. I am very intentional with pacing our work together, but when you are ready for change I am ready to go there with you.

When I’m not helping others on their healing journey, I love to garden, create delicious food for my loved ones, and take care of my senior dog, Oliver (who is on Prozac). Photosynthesizing in the sun is a required daily activity for me, and I am happy to discuss incorporating nature walks into our work together because of this. My Spotify describes me as an “angsty but uplifting badminton player” which accurately captures how I simultaneously feel 16 and 65 years old internally.

  • Specialized in complex trauma

  • Behaviors can be both protective and no longer serve you

How do I work?

Before becoming a therapist I was an Emergency Medical Technician for four years, and I bring the perspective of neuroscience into my counseling practice. My experience in the medical field taught me that the connection between mind and body is fundamental in creating change in people’s lives. I utilize bottom-up and somatic approaches, meaning we’ll understand together why your body suddenly feels on-edge, overstimulated, or completely numb and shutdown. You may have heard of “The Body Keeps the Score” and be curious about where your trauma lives in your body. Let’s find out together.

Grief and shame are tough companions that many people carry on the journey through trauma. Together, we can unpack them, gently releasing the weight they carry on your story. Whether you have lost a loved one, a part of yourself, or even a future you imagined we will explore how your loss has impacted your story.

  • Utilizes Bottom-up, Somatic approaches

  • Integrates Neuroscience

  • Focused on rekindling your Mind-Body Connection

  • Shame is a heavy companion to carry alone

  • Grief therapy allows us to honor our past while still moving forward

Who do I work with?

I welcome all individuals who are seeking therapy and honor the bravery that it takes to begin this journey. I specialize in working with Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) and Developmental Trauma. In addition to my trauma approach, My niche is working with people who experience Chronic Illness, Fatigue, and Pain. One type of trauma that is often overlooked is medical trauma. As a former EMT, I witnessed the invalidation and exhaustion that can come from simply trying to “prove” your diagnoses to people who just don’t understand. I believe you. From diagnosis to navigating life after treatment - I am in your corner. I will work with you towards reducing medical anxiety, processing diagnoses and loss, and living a full life again.

Before becoming a therapist, I had my own journey with counseling and understand that not all therapists are created equal. Many of my current clients have previously left therapy couches questioning if therapy works for them. If you are a self-aware individual, the many popular counseling theories that focus on creating awareness may have left you feeling stuck or hopeless. I utilize bottom-up and somatic techniques that help you actually feel your emotions rather than intellectualizing or avoiding them. This can be a very powerful and transformative process for people who are highly self-aware or weren’t given the space to express their emotions previously.

Theories/Trainings

I enjoy understanding the systems that people come from and am committed to learning how the family home that you grew up in impacts your symptoms and relationships today. I believe in both the science and art of therapy. I always utilize evidence-based approaches AND I believe leaning into creativity and adapting my counseling style to you is just as important as the technique itself.

Commitments and Values

As a trauma therapist, I honor that trauma takes many forms, including collective trauma from social injustice. I treat trauma holistically, and am committed to understanding how your identities intersect with your trauma. I acknowledge that marginalized communities (especially BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and low-income people) are underserved in mental health counseling. I am dedicated to increasing access to care for these communities.

If you have been grappling with a decision that involves reproductive healthcare access or gender-affirming care and you have been uncertain where to turn to for help - please know that my office is open to discuss this decision and how it has affected your mental and physical health. I hope to be a safe haven amidst legislation that is attacking healthcare rights and access.
