Sandtray

Sandtray

Sand tray can be an embodied conversation between our inner world and outer awareness, held and witnessed by another.
— Bonnie Badenoch

sandtray therapy is a tactile way of accessing our subconscious through symbols and metaphor. both children and adults find the tool of the sand to be an engaging approach to therapy—and especially—trauma therapy. it is a way to access the parts of ourselves there are no words for.

Have you ever come to therapy only to recognize you didn’t feel like talking? Sandtray is one of the tools we employ for that which can’t be spoken. It is a right brained approach to therapy that engages us in a new way and offers access to the deepest parts of self or system. You might prefer access to the sand to allow what comes forward to come forward or you may prefer the therapist to offer prompts. Some clients find it soothing just knowing the sand is available in the room and allowing the miniatures (symbols we use for sandtray) to be present in the room.

Sandtray can also be integrated with other therapies such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and Internal Family Systems. Our clinicians are skilled and trained in this way of working and witnessing, walking alongside you, and honoring your journey in the sand.
