clinical Supervision

Ilyse Kennedy is an approved supervisor for LPC Associates and LMFT Associates in Texas. She sees supervisees in person in South Austin or virtually throughout Texas.

Folks who have been in the therapy field for some time may have you believing you don’t know much as an associate—that you’re green and everything is new. While we have a lot to learn as interns who are thrown in to the therapy room after just two years of graduate school, I believe associates are some of the most passionate therapists and as a supervisor, I can learn just as much from you as you learn from me. In a field that is ever evolving, we need fresh passionate eyes and hearts. As your supervisor, I want to ignite and highlight the passion and knowledge you already possess—the one that lead you to become a therapist in the first place.

As soon as I entered the field, I knew I wanted to mentor and train other therapists. It has been a great joy to put my own passion and knowledge for trauma work back in to the world through my work with clinicians as an educator and mentor. As I’ve built my career, I’ve had the opportunity to do this in many different ways. In building a group practice, I’ve gotten to work with and consult several incredible early career therapists. Offering trainings, I’ve gotten to educate therapists at varying levels of their career around working with trauma. In one of my greatest honors, I’ve also gotten to work with other therapists as their therapist.

In the therapy room, I show up with authenticity and a slow pace that builds safety and allows trauma work to unfold, I work similarly as a supervisor. As clinicians, our own identities, histories, and present circumstances arrive in the room with us. The trick is not to leave these behind as we work with clients, but to gracefully acknowledge and make space for how those parts of us enter in to the work.

You may seek me out as a supervisor if you are interested in my areas of client expertise. As a therapist, I specialize in doing long term depth work with clients. Most of my people have experienced significant trauma. Most have experienced relational, or complex trauma. I specialize in working with children through adult individuals and have some expertise in working with couples in which one or both partners are healing from trauma. I also have training and expertise in working with Dissociative Identity Disorder, Perinatal Mental Health, and parents healing from their own childhood trauma.

In your search for a supervisor, it is also important to find someone who has been trained in modalities that are of interest to you. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Certified Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner, EMDRIA Certified, and Internal Family Systems Level 3 Trained. I completed Bonnie Badenoch’s year long Interpersonal Neurobiology training. Though lesser known, it was hugely influential and transformative to the way I work as a therapist and how I show up as a supervisor. I am also trained in sandtray, expressive arts therapies, and play therapy. While I appreciate each training and book I have read that has grown my knowledge as a therapist, it is my goal to help modalities and techniques you use as tools. To integrate your knowledge so well that it fades in to the background—tapping in to your own and your client’s intuition on what is needed for healing.

As a therapist, it is just as important to develop your business as it is to develop your skillset. Many incredible therapists struggle in private practice because they don’t have a business mindset or background. Having come from a past life in music marketing, I was able to apply this in marketing myself as a therapist. At this time, I will only be accepting associate therapists at Moving Parts Psychotherapy who are also under my supervision. Whether you want to join a group practice, start your own private practice, or work for an agency, I will aid in helping you develop your business as an associate therapist so you can thrive when fully licensed.
