(she/her)

Associate Therapist

Supervised by Ilyse Kennedy, LMFT-S, LPC-S

I invite you to transcend the limitations of basic talk-therapy. My goal is to help you access the tools and resources embedded within your biology to feel safe and embodied enough to make lasting changes.

welcome

My name is Phoebe (she/her).
Informed by my own experiences with somatic regulation, I apply a client-centered therapeutic approach that is deeply rooted in exploring what it means to be embodied in our lives.

Words shape our lives. Our lives are experienced through our bodies. The word embodiment can mean different things to different people. One beautiful interpretation of embodiment that I love comes from the Trauma Research Foundation:

“Embodiment: verb // The act of expanding one’s self awareness to include the felt experience of the body, such as sensory, sensational, emotional and physical experiences, and incorporating that information into one’s overall conception and conduct of themselves, their identity, beliefs, behaviors, and ways of being.”

background and experience

I earned my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston, and then went on to earn my Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas State University, a CACREP accredited program.

Practicing at the Austin State Hospital endowed me with a deep understanding of the mind-body connection and informed my therapeutic approach. Working with clients facing extremely traumatic experiences affirmed to me that extra attention is needed to address the effects that trauma has on the body.

Through mindful incorporation of research driven methods and a nervous system-centered approach I work to help you embody healing realities.

how i work

I work to build a custom-care plan for each client that I work with. Among the various modalities that I use, somatic-based therapy, relational-cultural theory, and narrative therapy have proven to be effective with many of my clients. I know the feelings of disappointment and exclusivity that can often accompany the idea of a mind-body connection. The modern world often leaves many of us feeling so burnt out that we often don't have time or resources to create that safety net in our mind-body.

I focus on cutting through all of the noise, establishing a vibrant and resilient mind-body connection to empower my clients to navigate through the stressful, productivity-oriented climate that we all exist within.

Early sessions are focused on forming a safe and strong foundation in your mind-body, giving you a more secure place to land as challenging things come up in our work together. Inner child work is difficult and I strongly believe in preparing the mind-body for this kind of deep, explorative work. I am passionate about empowering you through education, helping you understand how your nervous system and trauma responses function. As we build safety in your body, we can use these skills to learn how to feel safe and embodied in the face of upsetting situations and intense emotions.

You are the expert in your own experience- my goal is never to tell you that what you feel is right or wrong, but to decrease the distress associated with your experiences.

who i work with

I specialize in uplifting clients experiencing a disconnect from themselves in the face of trauma, abuse, isolation or burnout.

In our work together I strive to create a truly collaborative space, ensuring that we move at your pace while building safety nets in your mind-body. As we progress and go deeper, your nervous system will be supported every step of the way.

If you think we may be a good fit, please reach out to me. I look forward to connecting with you!

who i am

I am a sucker for a good belly laugh, and anything that revitalizes my passion for life. I am a poet, a dancer and a world traveler. One of my biggest values is community and I strive to bring a level of authenticity and vulnerability to all my relationships. Loving, supporting, and spending time with my friends is something I hold dearly to my heart. Outside of work I enjoy practicing yoga, taking a splash in cold water on a hot day, or cozying up on my porch with a book.
